He was predeceased by: his parents, Louria LaFontaine and Edna LaFontaine (Short); his daughters, Bonnie LaFontaine and Brenda Demery; his grandchildren, Ethan LaFontaine and Savanna Greywind; and his siblings, Ruth "Simi" LaFontaine, Russell, Darrell, Tony, Melvin and James LaFontaine.
He is survived by: his children, Norberta Greywind (Joe) of Oberon, Myron LaFontaine of Montana, Loren LaFontaine (Michelle) of Belcourt, Bryan LaFontaine of Grand Forks, Kevin LaFontaine (Sarah) of Fargo and Jason LaFontaine (Marion) of Belcourt; and his siblings, Irene Martin of Fargo, Gary LaFontaine of Washington and Robert "Bobby" LaFontaine of Washington. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren.
Before his Alzheimer's diagnosis in 2016, he loved to travel and spend time with his family.
