He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Gab and Lydia Gab (Wolff); his siblings, Aaron Gab (Margaret), Harold Gab (Dorothy), Robert Gab and Ardella Ernst (Lloyd); and his parents-in-law, William and Helen Opp.

He is survived by: his wife Joyce Opp of Eureka; his children, Cindy Sandman (Mark) of Fargo, Jeff Gab (Vonda) of Dickinson and Michele Willer (Jeff) of Ashland, NE; his grandchildren, Lucas Sandman (Jenna) of Fargo, Jenna Sandman of Apple Valley, MN, Jonathan (Lauren Griffin) of Carrollton, TX, Justine (Cole Nesbitt) of Oklahoma City, OK, Megan Amateis (Corey) of Waverly, NE, Natalie Pearson (Andrew) of Central City, NE and Leanna Willer of Overland Park, KS; and his sisters-in-law, Mary Gab of Eureka, SD, Doris Peterson (Bob) of Mountaintop, PA, Monica Opp (Norm Waite) of Boise, ID and Cori Kistner of Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to: St. John Lutheran Trust Fund or DSU Heritage Scholarship Fund.
