He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Kurtz and Frances Kurtz (Schmidt); his wife Fern Risovi; his former wife Doris Blake; his son Douglas; his granddaughter Dawn Johnson; and his siblings, John, Anthony, Frank, Lena Black, Katherine Black, Mary Ripplinger, Margaret Bischoff, Joanne Nelson and Phyllis Miller.
He is survived by: his father-in-law Frank; his wife Pat Varney; his children, Patricia Fay Walsh of Sandy, Utah, Linda Kay Johnson (Bob) of Bismarck, Michael Keith (Mary Lou) of Devils Lake, Cynthia Ann Stenhjem of Fargo and Brenda Marie Murray of West Fargo; his sister-in-law Marie Kurtz (Frank); and his pet Zoey Murray. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Mike's name may be made to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or a charity of the donor's choice.
