He was predeceased by: his parents, Hans and Signe Braathen (Kvikstad); his wife Marilyn Oyos; his daughter Debra; and his children-in-law, Steve Nies and Sandy.
He is survived by: his children, Marcia Torning (Walt) of Westfield, Indiana, Gordy Braathen (Linda) of Grand Forks, ND and Kent Braathen of Grand Forks, ND; and his grandsons, Christopher, Eric (Yvette) and Nick O'Brien (Alyssa). He is also survived by 22 great grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 9 step great grandchildren.
