He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Ames and Elsie Ames (Westphal); his former wife Evelyn Klein; his wife Mary Lou (Evelyn); and his brother-in-law Karyl "Butch" Kinnischtzke.

He is survived by: his sons, Corey Ames (Gail) of Devils Lake, Casey Ames (Gloria) of Moore, Oklahoma and Marty Ames (Suzy) of Moore, Oklahoma; and his sister Carol Kinnischtzke of Glen Ullin. He is also survived by four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.
