He was predeceased by: his parents, Erwin Papenfuss and Cecelia Papenfuss (Sellheim); his wife Doris Finnson; and his siblings, Clemeth, Louis, Earl, Norma "Sis" Thorlakson and Nira "Dolly" Fredericksen.
He is survived by: his children, Denise Papenfuss of Cavalier, ND, Diane Brown (Paul) of Cavalier, ND, Kathy Lowe (Mark), Kurtis Papenfuss and Brad Papenfuss (Laurie); his grandchildren, Julianne Horntvedt (Garrett), Lydia Lowe, Captain Jacob Papenfuss and Marley Papenfuss (Alex Hair); and his great grandchildren, Oliver and Theo Horntvedt of Bismarck, ND.. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Cavalier Ambulance Service, Cavalier Fire Department, or the United Lutheran Church.
