He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl O'Brien and Mathilda O'Brien (Sand); his brothers, Leslie O'Brien and Gerry O'Brien; and his nephews, Leslie and Bradley O'Brien.

He is survived by: his wife Gloria Baldwin of Cando; his children, Michael O'Brien of Cando, Mitchell O'Brien of Devils Lake, ND and Monica Halverson (Jason); his grandchildren, Zachary Mears (Brooke) of Devils Lake and Cameron O'Brien (Brooke) of Beulah, ND; his sister Doreen Frazier of Stockbridge, GA; his sister-in-law Rose O'Brien of Minot, ND; and his daughter Danielle Voeller.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a local charity in Cando.
