He was predeceased by: his father Helmuth Fischer; and his father-in-law Donald Kaul. He is survived by: his mother Arline Fischer (Dockter); his wife Tammy; his children, Matt Fischer (Dawn) and Jenna Berreth (Brandon); his grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas, Ethan, Andrew Fischer, Rylie and Taya Berreth; his brother Lee Fischer (Valerie); his nieces, Amy Meyer and Emily Dinger (Wes); his mother-in-law Wilma Kaul; and his sisters-in-law, Lori Heinrich, Kathy Kruse (Scott) and Tina Kaul.
He also found himself playing in various charity golf tournaments with friends – as Bernie would say – "It's a tough job but someone has to do it!".
