He was predeceased by: his parents, Philip Herman and Blanche Herman (Weil); his wife Lilavon Reich; his siblings, Agnes, Edna, Dick, Calvin, Lou, Delores, Eddie, Phil, Roy, Duane and Kenny; and his grandson Chauncey Sayler.
He is survived by: his son Lyle; his daughter-in-law Peggy Herman of Mandan, ND; and his daughters, Lois (Robert Fifer) of Beulah, ND and Lora (Michael Sayler) of Beulah, ND. He is also survived by six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
