He was predeceased by: his parents, William Sr. Peterson and Blanche Alma Peterson (Grant); and his sisters, Donna Johnson (Richard), Mary Alice Peterson, Mary Jane Necaise (John), Carleen Parisien and Lisa Laducer (Michael "Joker").

He is survived by: his children, Cory Peterson (Tabitha) of Wasilla, AK, Arden Adler (Samantha) of Austin, TX, Adam Peterson (Hannah) of Portland, OR and Dawn Dobler (Tim) of Culpeper, VA; and his siblings, Cornelius Grant (Rose) of Bismarck, Lana DeCoteau (Mick) of Belcourt and Toni Nelson (Kevin) of Bottineau. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
