He was predeceased by: his parents, Isadore Gourneau and Evelyn Gourneau (Brunelle); and his brother Douglas Gourneau (Karen Virginia Gourneau). He is survived by: his wife Karen Gourneau (Morin); his children, Dean, Vernon Jr., Lori, Daryl and Kelan Gourneau (Twila); his siblings, Isadore, Randy (Lila), Clark (Phyllis), Warren (Pauline), Shirley, Debbie, Carrie (Lawrence), Colleen (Lee), Denise (Leonard) and Randall; and his grandsons, Gabriel, Skye, Jonathon and Tanner. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
