He was predeceased by: his parents, Peter Helfenstein Sr. and Elizabeth Helfenstein (Schock); his grandfather Pete; his wife Violet Delores (Iszler); his daughter Patricia Rae; and his siblings, Eva Bender (Arthur), Elizabeth "Lizzie" Schilling (Gottfried), Alma Vanourny (Herbert), Kathyn Janke (Leonard), Fred and John Helfenstein (Gertrude).
He is survived by: his granddaughters, Rebecca Michaelsohn (Jodie) and Raquel Meidinger; his great grandchild Jayden Michaelsohn (Kelsie Sperle) of Aberdeen, SD.; his grandson-in-law Jodie; and his godsons, Scott Kost of Spokane, WA, Steve Lang of Pierre, SD, Bryan Iszler, Keith Iszler of Ashley and Jim Heupel.
The family prefers memorials to Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund or the Ashley American Legion.
