He is survived by: his wife Louise; his children, Glenn Rethemeier (Brenda) of Larimore, ND, Paul Rethemeier of Fosston, MN, Joanne Abel (Tim) of Arvilla, ND and Todd Rethemeier (Jennifer) of Phoenix, AZ; his daughter-in-law Jerilyn Rethemeier of Grand Forks, ND; his siblings, Howard Rethemeier (Pat), Arnold Rethemeier (Carol), Louise Bakke (Dan) and Linda Elstad; and his brother-in-law Wayne Olson. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
