He was predeceased by: his parents, Andrew Rackovan and Mary Rackovan (Zebresky); his siblings, Andrew Rackovan, Richard Rackovan, Walter Rackovan and Joan Ludwig; and his son John Rackovan, Jr..

He is survived by: his wife Patricia Gill Rackovan (Parsons); his children, Vickie Lee Miller (Rackovan), Brian Rackovan, James Rackovan and Peggy Smith (Margaret Rackovan); and his grandchildren, James Rackovan Jr., Jay Smith, Carter Smith, Brock Gray, Kari Huneycutt, Carla O'Meare, John Rackovan III, Justine Rackovan, Barnette Rackovan, Alyssa Locke, Corinna Weaver and Nicki Rackovan. He is also survived by 14 great grandchildren.
