He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Elizabeth Smith Hughes; his son Kelvin Edjuardo Hughes; and his siblings, Eva Samuels and Earl Hughes. He is survived by: his children, Dr. Cynthia Dodd of Oahu, Illa Laverne Galloway Crowder (Roy) of Staten Island, Keshi Surles (Russell, Jr.) of Kennesaw, Janine H. Nelson (Rashawn, Jr.) of Brooklyn, Larry Hughes of Jamacia, David Hughes (Sherri) of Blairs and Kenyon Hughes of Bedford, Texas; and his siblings, Dorothy Jefferies of Milton, Jerlene Hughes of Danville, Virginia and Wallace Hughes of Washington, DC. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many cherished friends.
