He was predeceased by: his parents, William Wesley and Ellen Jeanette Hutchens Petree; his brother Gary Wilson Petree; and his former wife Wanda Lou Cothren Petree. He is survived by: his sons, William "Billy" Petree, Jr. (Donna) and Michael Petree; his grandchildren, Nathanael Petree and Daniel Petree; and his siblings, Ann Groce (Buddy), Druie Frye (Tim) and Virgil Wayne Petree (Shirley).
