He was predeceased by: his parents, Almira Banks Shugart and Montgomery W. Shugart Jr. (Bill). He is survived by: his wife Pamala Shugart; his children, Zachary Shugart (Reena) and Teresa Kelly (Timothy); his grandchildren, Addison and Kyplee Kelly; his stepgrandson Dustin Tolbert; and his sister Dorothy Kellogg (Robert).

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, Yadkinville United Methodist Church, or the Winston-Salem Twin City Host Lions Club.
