He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Gray Spillman and Stella Vestal Spillman; his wife Betty Haynes Spillman; and his sister Helen White. He is survived by: his children, Barry Spillman (Denise) and Kristie Poindexter (Brian); his grandchildren, Trey Spillman, Garrett Poindexter, Gracie Poindexter and Dillan Spillman; his great grandchild Makaila Spillman; and his brothers-in-law, Satch White, Leonard Haynes Jr. (Barbara) and Charles Haynes.
