He was predeceased by: his father Franklin Aldean Matthews; his sister Annette Dawn Sapp; and his grandparents, Rosie Brown, Mannie and Bell Matthews.

He is survived by: his mother Lillie Mae Brown; and his sisters, Amy McFadden, Barbara Ann Matthews and Wanda K. Shore.
