He is survived by: his wife Virginia Butts Simmons; his daughter Jerri Simmons (Jason Ruffin) of Greenville; his siblings, Donnie Allen Simmons of Winterville and Pearl Jones of Greenville; his uncle Hilton Nichols of Winterville; his cousins, Edward "Buddy" Harrell and Francis Sutton; his close friend Herbie Carson; and his pets, Dixie and Ryder.
