He was predeceased by: his parents, Henrietta Carter Simmons and Thomas Simmons; and his siblings, Thomas Simmons, Herbert Simmons, Ralph Simmons, Edward Simmons and Emily Coleman (Simmons).
He is survived by: his wife Eleanor Barnhill Simmons of Winterville, NC; and his children, Larry Nauls, Charles Nauls, Robert Simmons (Patricia), Donald Simmons Jr., Paul Anthony Simmons (Glenda), Cheryl Jean Johnson (Prentiss), Vincent Barnhill (Pam), Kenneth Barnhill (Brandi), Caryn Tate, Vaughn Tate (Stacie) and Michael Barnhill (LaDonna). He is also survived by relatives and friends.
