He was predeceased by: his parents, Jefferson Edward Clayton and Margaret Louise Paige; and his siblings, Charles E. Clayton, Betty C. Whicker and Thomas J. Clayton.

He is survived by: his wife Jeanne K. Clayton; his daughter Valerie C. Haigler of Pinnacle, NC; his grandchildren, Christopher C. Haigler (Tara) of Nashville, TN and Ashley L. Weber (Taylor); his great grandchild Ivy Lea Weber of Tobaccoville, NC; and his close friend Foxy.
