He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Hughes Bernard and Louise Kidd Bernard; his wife Ann Sheets Bernard; and his siblings, Charles H. Bernard, Jr., William O. Bernard, Samuel G. Bernard, Garland L. Bernard, Dorothy Johnson and Martha Bernard.
He is survived by: his children, Debra Ann Johnson (Tim) and Thomas Kidd Bernard, Jr. (Davina); his grandsons, Samuel Paul Johnson (Brooke) and Benjamin Luke Johnson; his great grandchild Bramley Christopher Johnson; and his sister Betty B. Poe.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Ardmore Baptist Church, 501 Miller St., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
