He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, James Paul and Magdalene Cook Gilley; his wife Diana Almond Gilley; his children, Terrill Gilley (Ruth) of Winston-Salem, Laura Brown (Chris) of Jonesville and Julie Gilley of West Jefferson; his grandchildren, Stephanie Brown, Dylan Little, Wren Brown, Olivia Little, Lucy Gilley and Henry Gilley; and his sisters, Alesia Dickerson (Perry) of Jonesville and Darlene Eads of Jonesville.
