It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Shirley Jean Worrell Akers of Winston Salem, North Carolina, who passed away on November 20, 2024, at the age of 90, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her husband Charlie G.; and her parents, Margie Winesett Worrell Lundy and Ivy Sidney Worrell. She is survived by: her children, Wiley Mac Akers of Arbor Ridge and Lynn Akers Hawks of Pfafftown; her grandchildren, Heather Leedy Donavant (Randy) of Rural Hall, Justin Spencer Akers of Reidsville, NC and Chelsea Ann Akers of Stoneville; and her great grandchildren, Randall Chase Donavant and Tyler James Donavant. She is also survived by Several cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 21st 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Mt Olivet Community Church (6926 Carrollton Pike, Galax, VA 24333). The inurnment will be held on Saturday, December 21st 2024 at 3:00 PM at the Coulson Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that donations be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Center.
