He is survived by: his wife Patricia Gayle Tesh Meritt; his daughter Michelle Kiger (Shayne) of Hanging Rock; his brother Roger Merritt of Winston-Salem; his grandson Christopher Kiger of Wallburg; his close friend Ken Turpin; and his caregiver Kyle Barrier.
