He was predeceased by: his parents, Margaret H. Smith and Ralph E. Smith. He is survived by: his siblings, Patricia C. Smith of Chapel Hill, NC, William G. Smith of Winston-Salem, NC and James R. Smith (Carol) of Richmond, VA. He is also survived by 23 nieces and nephews.
