We are sad to announce that on January 20, 2024, at the age of 87, Phyllis Jean Bates Hamby (Winston Salem, North Carolina) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, James Sanford Bates, Sr. and Cassie Goodman Bates; her husband Walter G Hamby; her son Ronald Lee Enscore; her siblings, Charles Bates, Alden Bates and Peggy Bates Keaton; and her close friend Voit Tuttle.

She is survived by: her daughters, Deborah Enscore Ball (Donald), Teresa Hamby McGrath (Bobby) and Pamela Hamby Tang (Stanley); and her brother James Sanford Bates, Jr.. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
