He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel Slate Holton and Eunice Spainhour Holton; his granddaughter Emily Jane Eddleman; and his brother-in-law Dennis "Dale" Joyce. He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Joyce Holton; his children, Michelle Ruch (Richie) and Michael Eugene Holton Jr. (April); his grandchildren, Cody, Megan (Matt), Rachel and Savannah; his great grandchildren, Marlee, Emaura and Colden; his brothers, Johnny Holton (Mary), Robert Holton (Rita) and Billy Holton (Becky); and his sister-in-law Cathy Horton (Gary).
A memorial service was held on Sunday, December 22nd 2024 at 3:00 PM at the Silas Creek Chapel - Hayworth-Miller Funeral Homes & Crematory (3315 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27103).
