We are sad to announce that on February 14, 2024, at the age of 85, Martha Hanson Chafin of Winston Salem, North Carolina, born in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Dr. Oscar Henry Hanson and Helen Jean Young Hanson; her former husband Rick Murray; her husband Neil Chafin; and her son David Oscar Murray.
She is survived by: her children, Rick Murray, Jr. (Carole) of Winston Salem, Rev. Tom Murray (Perrin) of Birmingham, AL and Cassi Ragsdale (John) of Pfafftown; her daughter-in-law Sarah Murray (Raj) of Baltimore, MD; her grandchildren, Ana Linn Nifong (Patrick), Sarah Crockett (Lucian), Virginia Murray, David Murray, William Murray, Evelyn Murray, Sophie Murray and Tommy Ragsdale; her great grandchildren, Paul Nifong, Charlie and Robbie Crockett; and her siblings, John Hanson of Pelham, NY, Judy Henning (Don) of Fort Atkinson, WI and Tom Hanson (Bonnie) of Cambridge, WI. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that each of us do our best to live life with the generous good cheer and playful sense of humor that Martha radiated every day.
