He was predeceased by: his parents, Louise Abbott Douthit and Joseph F. Douthit, Sr.. He is survived by: his siblings, Louise McCrary (Carl) of Chillicothe, Patricia Douthit Kirby of The Meadows, Brenda Anthony (Harold) of Kernersville, Debra Wise (Jerry) of Winston-Salem and Garnett; his aunts, Irene Douthit, Reba Galloway, Delores Abbott of Maryland and Faye Abbott of Maryland; and his uncle Bobby Abbott (Barbara) of Clinton, Maryland. He is also survived by nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, great-great-nieces and -nephews, other relatives, and friends.
