He was predeceased by: his parents, William Cole and Annie Cole; his wife Frances; his daughter Francine Cole Maddox; his brother Willie; and his siblings-in-law, Clarence Braddy, Lester Braddy, Maggie Louise Braddy Ross and Juanita Braddy Lowery.
He is survived by: his sons, Joel Cole Jr. (Tamiko) and William Cole; his grandchildren, Tina Johnson (Nasion), Donovan Cole, William Cole II, Krista Brown, Joel Cole III and Saliah Rice; his sisters, Barbara Surratt of Shelby, NC, Emma C. Ingram, Ann Galloway and Ruby C. Griffin; and his siblings-in-law, Gwendolyn Cole of Winston-Salem, NC and Roger Lowery. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
