She was predeceased by: her parents, William F. Hardy and Annie Bell Rainey Hardy; her former husband David Oakes, Sr.; her husband T. J. Shuler; her siblings, Lillie Mae Allen, Annie H Davis and William Sonny Hardy; and her grandsons, Jermaine Oakes (Manny) and Jhonte J. Peters.
She is survived by: her children, Vernice H. Westmoreland, Barbara Oakes Brown, Kinard Oakes, Jackie Hardy (Shay), David Oakes (Gyda), Charlie, Linard Oakes and Mona Oakes; her sister Mattie Hardy; her granddaughters, Shamika Hardy, Shanee Hardy of Maryland and Tramona Oakes; and her great grandchild Zion Hardy of Norfolk, VA. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren; forty-eight great grandchildren; four great-great children; and host of nephews, nieces, and dear friends.
Currently she was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and continued to attend until covid when she began to experience health challenges.
