He was predeceased by: his parents, Frederick Eugene Carter and Lillian Pickett Carter; and his son Frederick "Rick" Sims Carter. He is survived by: his wife Ruth Sims Carter; his daughter Carol R. Carter of Morganton; his daughter-in-law Genie Sloan Carter; his grandchildren, Frederick Christopher "Chris" Carter and Sarah Anne Rider of Beech Island, SC; and his great grandchildren, Jerry Paul Rider and Bryson Rider.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his honor to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
