He was loved and cherished by many people including: his spouse Qin Chen Lyons; his parents, John William Lyons and Lillie Elizabeth Bridgeman Lyons; his sons, Christopher "Scott" Fiorillo Lyons of Winston-Salem, NC and John Micah King of Wilmington, NC; his sister Michele Bowen; his stepdaughter MiMi Liu; and his stepgranddaughter Xiao Xi Pan. He was also cherished by one niece and five nephews.
