He was predeceased by: his mother Josephine Murray Carpenter; and his sister Andrea Monica Carpenter. He is survived by: his children, Carley Carpenter-Mason (Richaad) of Dunwoody, GA and Benjamin Franklin Carpenter, III of Tucker, GA.; his grandchildren, Aria Rose-Tane Mason, Ritch Franklin Grady Mason and Harper R'moni Gray Mason; his former wife Tane Carpenter; and his brothers, Benny Woffard (Virginia), Anthony D. Carpenter (Geraldine), Vincent T. Carpenter (Pam Jinwright-Carpenter) and Curtiss W. Carpenter.
