He was predeceased by: his parents, Edgar Lee Shell and Betty Jean Byrd Shell; his brothers, Tony Shell, Ricky Shell and Edgar Shell; and his uncle Danny Byrd.
He is survived by: his wife Bobbi Shell of Advance; his children, Barry Shell Jr. (Kim) of Statesville and Misty Shell of Advance; and his sisters, Teresa Shell of Winston-Salem and Diana Willetts of Gibsonville.
