He is survived by: his wife Sonya Porter Ellis of Creedmoor, NC; his children, Yucconda Porter-Brewster (Vincent) of Durham, NC, Shameeka Porter of Durham, NC, Leshonda Mullins of Wilmington, NC, James R. Ellis, Jr. of Creedmoor, NC and Taiwan Mullin of Wilmington, NC; his sister Carolyn Bell of Norfolk, VA; and his niece Virginia. He is also survived by twenty-one grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
