She was predeceased by: her parents, McKinnley Conner and Mildred Phelps Conner; her husband Maywell "Mitchell" Smithwick; her daughter Rebecca Congleton; her siblings, James Conner, McKinley Conner, Sybil Ambrose and Gladys Holliday; and her sons-in-law, William Blake, Jack Stanley and Kenneth Congleton.
She is survived by: her daughters, Dianne Dixon (Richard) of Jacksonville, FL, Shirley Blake of Raleigh and Kathryn "Mickie" Stanley of Williamston; and her sister Faye Jernigan of Askewville. She is also survived by five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
