He was predeceased by: his parents, William Luther and Annie Ruth Smithwick Thompson; his brother Kenneth Thompson; and his half-brothers, Braxton, Lewis, Manly, Elwyn and Billy Thompson.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Tadlock Thompson; his children, Judy Thompson Hoggard (Steve) and Andy L. Thompson (Angela) of Windsor; his sister Jean Hinds of Charleston, SC; his grandchildren, Taylor Thompson, Riley and Noah Hoggard; and his sister-in-law Martha Thompson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
