He was predeceased by: his father John Emitt; his siblings, Russell, John, Dallas Wells and Christine Silverthorne; and his grandchildren, Dillion Smith and Rachel Wells.
He is survived by: his wife Brenda Modlin Wells; his children, Phillip Wells, Jr. (Susan) of Williamston, Chris Allen Wells of Jamesville, Jerry Smith of Williamston, Teresa Smith (Paul) of Williamston and Melissa Connell of Williamston; his brother Claude Wells (Margaret) of Kitty Hawk; and his grandchildren, Trey Smith, Brandon Wells, Caitlin Smith, Sierra Jones, Savannah Latham, Eli Wells, Ryan Wells and Naomi Connell.
