She was predeceased by: her parents, Henry Leon and Mamie Ward Hawkins; her husband Rudolph Brownard Barnes; her son Thomas Leon Butler; and her siblings, Nancy Lee, Joseph, Luther and Richard Hawkins.

She is survived by: her son Robert Butler of Williamston; and her brothers, Walter Hawkins of Kinston, Jimmy Hawkins of Council Bluffs, IA and Jerry Hawkins of Asheboro. She is also survived by many numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
