She was predeceased by: her parents, C. W. Swain and Sarah King Swain; her husband Carlton Hughes; her son Robert Carlton Hughes; and her siblings, L. B. Swain and Nancy S. Banks.
She is survived by: her children, Dianne H. Gilleland (Bill) of Morehead City, NC, Darlene H. Futrell (Winston) of Conway, NC and Randy W. Hughes (Mitzi) of Merry Hill, NC; her brother Roy E. Swain of Ahoskie; and also Ann Ramseur. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren.
