He is survived by: his wife Carolyn; his children, Brian Smithwick (Stephanie) of Wake Forest and Brooke Smithwick Hanford (Greg) of Rolesville; his granddaughters, Emmy, Harper Smithwick, Katie and Sarah Hanford; and his sister Fonda Sanderlin (Truman) of Greens Cross.
