He was predeceased by: his parents, J. B. Barnett and Maxine Barnett; and his brothers, Dexter Barnett and Danny Barnett. He is survived by: his wife Becky R. Barnett of Wilson; his children, Jennifer Barnett of Wilson and Vern Barnett of Wilson; his grandson Luke Bee Barnett; his siblings, Caroline Hardison (Kent) of Kinston and Dempsey Barnett (Debbie) of Kinston; and his sister-in-law Judy Barnett of Kinston.
