He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Ruffin, and Patricia Ruffin, Sr.; his sister Sandy Allen Ruffin; and his great-aunt Pattie Bell Ruffin. He is survived by: his significant other Phyllis Johnson; his brother Timothy Hilliard Ruffin; his nieces, Catherine Ruffin (Marcus Maynor) and Amy Harrell; his great-nephews, Isaiah, Micah and Sawyer Thomas; and his great-niece Parrish.
