He is survived by: his wife Brenda Kennedy Carter of Lucama; his children, Kimberly Carter Dowdle (Chris) of Clayton and Richard Allen Carter II (Kim) of Greenville; his grandchildren, Kaitlin Dowdle Gagnon (Kevin), Carter Dowdle, Justin Carter and Ethan Carter; his great grandchildren, Celeste Noel Carter and Cormac Carter Gagnon; and his brothers, Donald A. Carter of Morehead City and Samuel L. Carter of Sanford.
