He is survived by: his children, Melcher Delano Smith (Laurie) of Tarboro, Joe S. Smith, Jr. (Sandra) of Rocky Mount, Michael Keith Smith (Shelia) of Zebulon and Kelly Greene (Jody) of High Point; his siblings, Judy Edwards (Charles) of Winston-Salem, Barbara Toler (Maurice) of Raleigh, Faye Felton of Wilson and William R. "Bill" Felton, Jr. (Betty) of Alabama; his sister-in-law Carolyn Felton of Oxford; his grandchildren, Brittany Morris (Robby), Michael Ray Smith, David Smith, Andrew Smith, Del Smith (Jennifer), Blake Whichard (Emily) and Josh Whichard; and his great grandchild Zoey Whichard. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and family friends.
