She was predeceased by: her son Gerald "Jerry" Haakinson; her parents, Thomas "Bud" Schuler and Lena Flora Schuler; her stepmother Jessie Schuler; and her brothers, Ronald Schuler, Kenneth Schuler and Frederick Schuler.

She is survived by: her husband David B. Haakinson; her children, David E. Haakinson (Debbie), Gregory J. Haakinson (JoAnna), Christopher D. Haakinson (Lisa), Susanne L. Lawless (John), Carole M. Ayers (Steven) and Natalie A. Mercer (Matthew); her grandchildren, D. J. Haakinson (Jessica), Matthew Haakinson, Jared Smith (Sam), Dannie Haakinson, Bradley Ayers (Kayla), Travis Ayers (Rosa), Josephine Ayers (Tannie), Shannon Lawless, Megan Westbrook (Spencer) and Robin Anne Mercer; and her great grandchildren, Logan, Cameron, Kenzie Haakinson, Beatrix Herek Smith and Nicolas Ayers.

Visitation was held on Monday, November 11th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Joyners Funeral Home & Crematory (4100 Raleigh Rd Pkwy W, Wilson, NC 27896). A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, November 12th 2024 at 1:30 PM at the St. Therese Catholic Church (700 Nash St, Wilson, NC 27893).
