She was predeceased by: her parents, John Robert and Rubelle Abbott Phillips; her husband Ernest E. Smith; her siblings, Dave Phillips, Joe Phillips, Derring Phillips and Jean Mertz; and her stepgrandson Bryan Tharrington.
She is survived by: her children, Joanna Carraway of Wilson, Gail Tharrington (Steve) of Rocky Mount, Lucinda Pollock (Tony) of Wilson and Ernie Smith; her grandchildren, Kevin Carraway (Vivian), Courtney Carraway, Brian Pollock (Leigh Ann), Sion Smith (Erin) and Seth Smith; her great grandchildren, Brenda Ramirez, Mayra Ramirez, Wendy Andras (Tim), Addilyn Pollock and Alana Robbins; her great great grandchild Sophia Andras; her sister Barbara Beeson of Hickory; her sisters-in-law, Evelyn Phillips of Grifton and Nonie Phillips of Wilson; and her caregivers, Jackie, Bobbie, Karen, Betty and Rhonda. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Thursday, November 7th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the First Christian Church (207 Tarboro St NE, Wilson, NC 27893). A funeral service was held on Thursday, November 7th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location.
